A go bag is a bag with essential items that you can grab and go. Typically meant for emergency situations, in our case it contains items and information to help our loved one (and caregiver) in personal emergencies. Everybody poops! We just plan for it.
People use a duffle, a tote, or even a grocery bag. We keep a tote bag in the care for personal and emergency effects.
The tote bag in our car is prepped with a full set of clothes, from incontinence underwear (or diapers), to socks to outer layers. We also include emergency medicines like an epi-pen, bottles of water.
We have found the following items helpful for our car's go-bag:
Envelope of medical information
2-3 garbage bags
Roll of paper towel
Room spray
Flushable wipes
Plastic (i.e. Ziplock) bags
Water / bottles
If you are gifting a go bag, consider a useful present for the caregiver, or a small bottle (or can) of their favorite beverage. We found it a great way to get the caregiver to laugh and feel confident to move ahead.
Pictured here is our travel / doctor's appointment go bag - a waterproof, fire-proof document carrier with a TSA lock. It includes extensive medical information, powers of attorney, medical directives, valuable personal effects, passports.
